100 Things: 76-100.

By neener | February 28, 2008

76. I got my first pedicure today, February 27, 2008.
77. I am currently watching Back to the Future. I have never seen any of the Back to the Future trilogy which, I know, lowers my level of geekdom.
78. I’ve lived in only three Texas towns - Stephenville, Lubbock, and Dallas.
79. I was a drum major in high school for two years. (No, that doesn’t mean I played the drums.)
80. Most personality tests I take remind me I’m a little introverted.
81. I don’t like playing guitar and singing in front of individuals or small groups. I much prefer large settings.
82. I avoid scary/gory movies because I hate how they put mentally disturbing images in my head. I live alone. That’s a recipe for paranoia.
83. I won a Soil and Water Conservation poster contest in 5th grade. I received a plaque with George W. Bush’s signature engraved in it. It’s hanging in the hallway of my parents’ house.
84. I have accidentally called at least two of my teachers “mom.”
85. I was scolded by a teacher when I fell up the stairs. She checked to make sure I was okay and when she found out I was laughing, she was very unhappy with me.
86. I’d like a kitten but I’m allergic and unwilling to load up on Claritin.
87. I had a kitten in college, her name was Kittybeth. Also called her the Percolator (Purrcolator, if you’d like) because she’d purr so loud.
88. It’s hard for me to eat ice cream without a cone. Or cake.
89. Part of me thinks life would be richer if I lived amongst the financially poor.
90. I am pretty sure I have 100+ first cousins on my mom’s side because I have six uncles and five aunts.
91. I have seen the Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers. I will be hitting up a Dallas Mavericks game on Easter. So far, I think hockey games are the best to see live.
92. Entertainment Weekly magazines have mysteriously started showing up in my mailbox. Yes, they are addressed to me.
93. I love summers in Texas because it makes me feel like I’m working out when I’m actually just driving my car.
94. I was voted Best Sense of Humor and High School Sweetheart runner-up my senior year of high school.
95. I had never plucked or waxed my eyebrows until my later years of college. Nobody informed me that my eyebrows were thick, furry caterpillars. No, they were!
96. The first time I drank alcohol was at Buffalo Wild Wings in Lubbock. I was 21 1/2 years old. I think I drank 1/3 of a Coors Light bottle.
97. One time I ate 20 Chicken McNuggets within an hour as a bet. I did. I was a little groggy afterwards.
98. I’ve met the founder of Geek Squad, Robert Stephens, at the Best Buy corporate headquarters. He was very nice and chock full of ideas. Coming out of his ears, even. I have mad respect for him.
99. I sleep best when I have a body pillow. It’s easier on the back and I’m a cuddler.
100. I finally finished Back to the Future. Now I know what a flux capacitor is.

100 Things: 51-75.

By neener | February 27, 2008

51. One of my favorite things to do is hit up Dunn Bros. Coffee House during happy hour and drink a beer while reading a book or spending time with a friend.
52. I subscribed to Relevant Magazine a few years ago and never received my magazines.
53. I sleep way too much.
54. I pickup foreign languages well and would like to speak Spanish and/or Mandarin fluently someday.
55. I didn’t like this one guy in high school. He annoyed me so much, I threw away his favorite cap. Then, I watched him silently as he freaked out looking for it. (Not a shining moment, but I’m being honest here!)
56. In 5th grade, I tried out to be in one of the country line dances for our school play. I wanted “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” but had to settle for “Achy Breaky Heart.” No, I don’t remember the moves.
57. I had a dog for maybe a week when I was a child. I don’t remember what he looked like, but I named him Scooby Doo. He ran away, but my dad said he was stolen.
58. Bands/artists I want to see live that I haven’t yet (and are currently active): U2, Green Day, Jack’s Mannequin, Alicia Keys, LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, Sherwood, The Secret Handshake, Weezer, Dave Matthews (only if he is with Tim Reynolds), Hot Hot Heat, Shiny Toy Guns, and Third Eye Blind.
59. My birthday falls on the same day as the opening day of the Olympics in China this year.
60. People often think I shave my arms. I don’t.
61. I was in a band for about a month or two. We practiced a lot but when our first gig cancelled and half of the band started their careers, we disbanded. The band was called Post Script.
62. I have had three cars. 1990 Ford Tempo (1998-2000), 2000 Ford Mustang (2000-2003), and 2004 Mazda3 (2004-current).
63. I’m slightly allergic to kiwi, melons, avocado, and bananas.
64. I have super poor memory that I lovingly call “peanut memory.”
65. My 5th grade science class kept baby chicks around for awhile. At the end of the unit, we had a drawing to see who got to take home a chick. I won one. It died the next day.
66. The first time I can remember death having an effect on me was when my Trig teacher, Mr. Stanley Miller, died. Although he was my teacher for only eight weeks, he made a huge impact. Not only did I enjoy math again, but he also encouraged learning in general. He always had a smile and was known for wearing a different tie for every day of the year. The only exception was when they buried him with his “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” tie.
67. The temporary teacher that replaced Mr. Stanley disliked me and seemed to dislike the world in general. I got in trouble for smiling once as well as getting up to throw a piece of paper away. However, I did see her smile once. Something about oranges.
68. I still keep in touch with a few of my childhood friends, specifically Gina and Ann who I’ve known since elementary school. We lived a few blocks from each other.
69. I was grounded for a whole summer for lying to my parents. I lost a gold necklace which funnily enough, I found a few months after that summer.
70. I often think about getting a tattoo on my wrist that says “redeemed,” “redemption,” or “grace.” This idea is usually followed by a visual picture of me as a granny sporting a tattoo.
71. I was almost expelled from high school when they found my personal web site. I had an animated gif of a cartoon man walking across the screen, pulling his pants down, then urinating on a photo of my choice. At the time, I think it was a picture of Hanson.
72. I don’t really like onions or tomatoes. I like onion rings and ketchup though.
73. I tend to turn the volume down in the car if I’m on the phone, eating, or looking for directions.
74. My idea of a great party is a backyard BBQ with a few good friends.
75. Just looking at the Superman ride at Six Flags makes me weak in the knees and slightly sick in the stomach.

100 Things: 26-50.

By neener | February 24, 2008

26. I was baptized a year ago today, February 24, 2007.
27. United Artists used to attach their animated UA logo with some music at the beginning or end of their movies. This severely creeped me out as a kid.
28. Including states I have passed through, I have to been to Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming, Minnesota, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Seattle, California and of course, Texas. (California was a layover but I’d love to spend some time there.)
29. I’m convinced I could eat pineapple with every meal ’til kingdom come.
30. I would like to screen print posters and t-shirts as an extra source of income and fun.
31. As a senior in high school, my UIL spelling and vocabulary team made it all the way to state. We didn’t place there though.
32. Part of me wonders if I could be a nurse or doctor, be good at it, and enjoy it.
33. January 10, 2001 was when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at a high school church service in Plainview, Texas.
34. People think I’m from California because of my personality and accent. I’m not sure what that means and if that’s a good thing.
35. I really like apple cider (Hornsby or Ace) with fish and chips.
36. I was voted high school band sweetheart during my senior year alongside my best friend at the time, Clay, who was voted band beau.
37. My parents enrolled me in piano lessons when I was four and kept me going ’til I left for college.
38. I was against church membership until I discovered The Village Church. I am now a member.
39. I use Crest Whitestrips about once a year or so.
40. As a kid, I used to hide food I didn’t want to eat in the plants behind the dinner table. My mom eventually watered the plants and found out.
41. I’m not a dog person. While working for the Geek Squad as an in-home technician, some dog owners were convinced I was a dog lover because I had a way with dogs. They were deceived.
42. I’ve only had my fingernails painted once and I think it was Megan Cherry that sweet talked me into letting her do it.
43. After one very crazy night, I let my friends dye my hair for the first time. They dyed it blonde in attempts to lighten it, then red. It remained a strange shade of orange until the day before graduation. I paid for a professional to dye it back to black before my parents got into town.
44. Without a doubt, I am a night owl.
45. I don’t like mac and cheese as much as like Velveeta shells and cheese.
46. I also really like this soup my mom used to make me that was basically shells and chicken broth.
47. I have successfully gone a year without changing my vehicle registration.
48. I check facebook, myspace, iGoogle, and cnn.com an obsessively amount of times daily.
49. I wish I didn’t live alone so I didn’t have to pay all my bills, figure out how to cook for one person, and sadly look at my unloved Wii.
50. People who tan so much I can see their tanning goggle lines are kind of gross to me.

100 Things: 1-25.

By neener |

I think it’s a combination of the coffee I drank earlier today and the stimulating conversations I’ve had all day because I can’t sleep. Instead, here’s a list inspired by my dear friend Ann.

1. There are 13 letters in my last name. I think the first time I said it, I was under the table eating a carrot that had accidentally fallen on the floor and had been there for quite some time. When my parents found me, I felt like I was going to get in trouble so I said my last name. That’s how I remember it.
2. I don’t wear makeup because it takes extra time out of my day.
3. I am addicted to Chapstick.
4. I am slightly irritated when people misuse its/it’s, your/you’re, and there/their/they’re.
5. Rainy and overcast weather tends to make me tired and sad.
6. I’ve thought about moving to the northeast before, but the previous statement conflicts with this thought.
7. The real reason why I don’t wear makeup now is because I don’t have any and if I did, I wouldn’t know how to apply it correctly.
8. I can’t swim although yesterday, my dad claimed I could.
9. My dad has also sworn there are 51 stars on the U.S. flag.
10. I think I am outgrowing chocolate candies.
11. Including layovers, I have been to Thailand, The Philippines, Japan, China, and Hong Kong.
12. Redheaded females tend to intimidate me, especially if they are tall.
13. As of today, iTunes says I have 3991 items (not all music, some are sermons and the New Testament audiobook). They are almost all rated and labeled with my special genre listing so not only can I find songs I really like, but they can fit my mood better.
14. It drives me nuts to see other people’s iTunes library when they have mislabeled or untitled songs.
15. I have a tendency to straighten up the aisles when I go to video stores like Blockbuster.
16. This tendency landed me a job as an assistant manager at a Hastings in Lubbock. I worked there for only a month in addition to my job at Best Buy. I only quit because Best Buy promoted me. I still tell people working at Hastings was one of the funnest jobs I’ve had.
17. The worse jobs I’ve had is a close tie between helpdesk support at Texas Tech (742-HELP, holla!) and sales associate at Family Christian Stores. True story.
18. When Michael Jackson was huge in the 80s, I would moonwalk across the coffee table.
19. I don’t remember how to play many songs on the piano with the exception of the intro to “Beauty and the Beast” and “Maple Leaf Rag.”
20. However, I can sightread extremely well. So well that my piano teacher often thought I practiced way more than I actually did, ha ha.
21. I still use the first e-mail address I’ve ever had, but mostly to register for sites.
22. People say I’m a good listener. What most of them don’t realize is that it’s just a defense mechanism so I don’t have to talk about myself.
23. I like to read things aloud randomly when people are around. It is common for there to be no reason at all and I won’t realize it.
24. I often fear that I am like the guy that was given one talent and buried it in the ground (Matthew 25). Except I feel like I have ten talents and they are all buried.
25. Sliced apples always remind me of my mom. She would peel and slice apples for me and my brother (we did not like the peels) before she would leave for work at 6:30pm.
