Shirt. Woot. Again.

By neener | September 5, 2008

I received my first paycheck from my new job Tuesday so what was my first big purchase? Three random shirts from Woot! I bought three random shirts many months back when they offered the random shirts for $6.66 each and the results weren’t so bad. (In fact, the Unhappy Meeting shirt is one of my favorites!)

Yesterday, I checked the mailbox to the house for the first time since I’ve moved in and what did I find? Woot shirts! I got one that I wasn’t a big fan of (at all), but the other two I will definitely throw into my normal rotation.

In unrelated news, this news article makes me laugh: Duck Stamp number sends callers to sex line. C’mon designers and marketing peoples, proofread that stuff!

Is it okay to cry?

If you have not heard the news, tragedy has hit the household of Steven Curtis Chapman. Although I don’t know him, although I don’t even have any of his songs in my iTunes library, and although I don’t know what it feels to lose a family member, I couldn’t help but shed some tears for his beautiful girl, Maria Sue, whose life ended coincidentally on the day my brother was born twenty-two years ago.

I’m okay!

As of 7:15AM, there are reports of major damage in Plano, Allen, and McKinney as well damage in Irving and Addison. This is nuts to me because I’m a few miles from them all!

At 2AM, I checked the weather when I noticed a tweet from Brownwood mention tornado weather. The storms seemed far away enough that it wouldn’t hit Dallas. I WAS WRONG, WONK WONK.

At 4AM, I decided to hit the hay and just when I did, the storm came. The winds were nuts and I nervously sat next to my bedroom window, wondering if the tree next to it was going to barge in. Before I could think about checking the weather online again, the power was out. A few minutes later, I get a text from a friend in Grapevine wondering if I was OK. The storm woke her up and TV said I was in trouble! But the storm quickly came and went. It probably lasted fifteen minutes max although the rain lingered.

I just checked outside and there are no damages I noted in my apartment complex. Aside from having no power for over an hour, my little spot in the world was just fine throughout the craziest storms to hit DFW this year.

Hope everyone else is OK!

EDIT: Here are some pics I took the next day.

Oh snap! goes the branches. My apartment building is not seen here, but very close to the right.

An uprooted tree! AND! My bedroom window a few yards to the right!

Lubbock makes the news.

By neener | March 29, 2008

I get nervous when I see Lubbock or my hometown, Stephenville, on CNN.com. A few months ago, there was a UFO sighting in Stephenville and I got to read many people express what they truly thought of the small town rednecks that live there. I assure you, they are all not rednecks.

Well, I just read this article that involves the Lubbock International Airport and nipple rings. Certainly, she’s not the first person to go through an airport with that sort of jewelry on, right? I wonder what made this instance different.

Airports have made me slightly nervous ever since I had a pat down at the Manila, Philippines airport. Sure, it was a female that performed the security check, but you gotta give a 15-year old kid a heads up before you do!
