Just call me Mary. Or Homer.

By neener | March 15, 2008

About five years ago, I took the Myers-Briggs test as part of a “leadership in training” class at a college ministry. For those who have never heard of it, the results call out four characteristics about yourself.

- Extraversion/Introversion
- Sensing/Intuition
- Thinking/Feeling
- Judging/Perceiving

In a group of about fifteen, there were two that were introverts. I was one of them.

I always thought that was strange, but I had to learn that being an introvert wasn’t necessarily a weakness. Some of my favorite pastors are self-proclaimed introverts, so that’s put me at ease. Anyway, besides the introversion, I don’t remember the rest of my results. I thought I’d take it again to see where the chips fell this time.

Your Type is INFP
Introversion 44%
Intuitive 12%
Feeling 38%
Perceiving 33%

So, turns out I’m a loner that is in touch with my feelings. That’s how I read it anyway. But after Googling “INFP,” I found some interesting results. The Keirsey Temperament Sorter calls the INFP a Healer and this web site refers to them as the Idealists. My favorite is the list of famous INFPs such as Mary, mother of Jesus, Homer, Helen Keller, and William Shakespeare. Maybe being a quiet softy ain’t so bad.

If you haven’t taken the test, check it out here. What are you?

I was an ESFJ a long time ago… I’d be very curious to see what I am now! I’ll take the test and give you a full report.

    :)

Oh right. Third comment from me in 2 hours. I forgot to tell you who the famous ESFJs are. It’s an interesting list, indeed.

    Bill Clinton
    Barbara Walters
    Jack Benny
    Desi Arnaz
Don Knotts (I love Barney Fife!)
Sally Struthers (Can’t we all just get along?)
    Mary Tyler More
… and of course, Danny Glover!

I am ESFJ currently. But ENFJ is what I was this summer.

  • By Magen Roberson, March 17, 2008 @ 12:33 pm

    I am:

    E 11
    S 1
    F 12
    J 22

You and I are almost opposites. The Heiss description of the ESFJ was pretty accurate of me. Famous people who share my type: Mary Tyler Moore, Sally Field, Monica character on ‘Friends.’ Interesting! Thanks for posting the test, that was fun.

Looks like ESFJs like reading my blog! And I like that this breaks any strange stereotype that bloggers are socially awkward cave dwellers. Maybe only a few.

Mags, you are totally Monica. ;-)
